Zum Kuckuck mit den Eiern Laying Eggs Text: Adelheid Dahimène Illustrations: Heide Stöllinger Being a parent is never easy...
It's also hard work to have children in the bird kingdom! The cuckoo bird wife doesn't feel one bit like hatching her two brown-speckled eggs – especially since her husband is taking it easy, filing his claws without a care in the world, and doesn't even dream of helping her with the troublesome hatching. Let others do the work, thinks Mrs. Cuckoo! The sassy sparrow, for example, who is always sharpening her beak, and the vain magpie, who stands in front of the mirror every day. Off she goes, dropping the cuckoo eggs into the others' nests! The expectant bird mothers obediently settle down to hatch the eggs, but when the magpie discovers the gold color in the feathers, she curses the eggs... One story below, the sparrow is singing the same song – and thus the cuckoo birds do become parents after all. Adelheid Dahimène writes for both children and adults. Her most recent award was The Austrian Recognition Award for Literature. Boje Verlag published a further book of hers entitled "Weitersagen!" (Pass It On, ill. by Selda Marlin Soganci) Heide Stöllinger, born in 1940 in Klagenfurt, studied at the College of Applied Art in Vienna. Together with Adelheid Dahimène, she has published numerous picture books which have received many awards. She lives and works as a freelance artist in Linz on the Danube. |

Mathematricks Mathematricks By Robert Griesbeck ill. by Nils Fliegner Clever tricks for today's kids
Mathematricks serves as a quick way to motivate and overcome the frustration about math in an amusing way. Thinking can be real fun, more thinking more fun, and trickier thinking is, the most fun! Robert Griesbeck worked as the chief editor for various magazines, and today he writes books. His favorite sport is mental exercise. Ever since writing this book he has stopped eating pork – for reasons of respect. Nils Fliegner was born in Hamburg in 1966. He can paint everything – from apes to zebras. And pigs are one of his favorite motifs. This is why he drew exactly one-hundred-fifty-seven of them for this book (go ahead and count them!). As an inhabitant of the city of Hamburg, he naturally likes fish fingers best – but they have to be freshly caught. Boje Publishing Spring 2008 |

Briefe an Pauline Letters to Pauline Text: James Krüss Illustrations: Renate Habinger The wonderful art of writing letters
Pauline thinks that the best stories written by her penpal Don Jaime are »half crazy and half reasonable« She loves to read them in any case! Don Jaime – alias James Krüss himself – and his young penpal Pauline have agreed to a small trade-off. For every story the author sends to her, Pauline has promised to grant him one wish. For on the Canary Islands, where he lives, important things as erasers, pencil sharpeners and other such stuff are not easy to come by. Pauline receives a wonderful new story with each letter in return, with sly bits of advice for life in general. I can't exactly say when I am happy – I usually notice it afterwards, when it's over. Renate Habinger has also illustrated the first volume Pauline And The Prince In The Wind with amusing, lovely strokes. James Krüss (1926 – 1997) is one of the biggest names in German children's literature. His work appears in various editions and was translated into many languages. In 2007 the James-Krüss-Museum was opened on his home island, Helgoland, Germany. Boje Publishing Fall 2008 |

In Tante Julies Haus At Aunt Julie's House By James Krüss ill. by Marei Schweitzer »Life doesn't just need B, it needs the whole ABC!« Amusing stories and poems for linguistic acrobats!
Everything is different at Aunt Julie's house. The rooms have all got names and instead of setting traps for the mice, they are fed. In the evenings everyone sits down together to drink spiced wine and eat cake, then start to make rhymes. And because the alphabet has so many nice letters, Aunt Julie and her guests never run out of ideas ... James Krüss (1926 – 1997), is one of the classics of German children's books. His work appears in various editions and was translated into many languages. In 2007 the James-Krüss-Museum was opened on his home island, Helgoland, Germany. Marei Schweitzer was born in 1973 in Unna. She studied graphic design and illustration in Bremen, Stockholm and Strasbourg. Before she began working as an illustrator, she lived in Brittany for a while. |

Ich wär' so gerne Zoodirektor I Want To Be Director Of The Zoo Text: James Krüss Illustrations: Lisl Stich A rediscovered picture book gem
James Krüss and Lisl Stich created a whole series of picture books together, which Boje is republishing bit by bit – the endearing charm of these books will guarantee their success again today! »I want to be a zoo director. Then in one year, I will build a small paradise on Earth that is glorious and wonderful!« James Krüss (1926 – 1997) was born in Helgoland. He decided to become a freelance author after completing his education to become a teacher. Promoted by Erich Kästner, he lived in Munich for many years before starting a new life on an island - Grand Canary. Krüss is a sovereign master of sly fantasy – and at the same time a realistic authority of human strengths and weaknesses. He wrote numerous children's books, stories, novels and, above all, poems. Many of them were used as a basis for picture books. He was awarded the world's highest award for children's and youth literature - the Hans Christian Andersen Medal. |
